Ike’s 131st Birthday Celebration at the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site
The City of Denison and the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site have planned a full day of events to celebrate General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s birthday and his return to his birthplace in Denison in 1944.
Begin the day with the Brick Dedication Sunrise Service for the newest bricks for veterans at the Eisenhower Veterans Monument at 9:00 a.m. The Monument is on Highway 75 at North Loy Lake Road (exit 67). The Scott Middle School Jazz Band will perform.
The Eisenhower Birthplace will be celebrating Eisenhower’s Birthday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A limited number of free tours of the Birthplace House will be offered at the top of every hour until 3:00 p.m. Pick up your tour tickets in the Visitors Center.
Several community partners will be at the event: the Grayson County Master Gardeners, Frontier Village and Museum, the Grayson County Amateur Radio Club, and the Sherman Museum. There will also be craft tables, games, and activities at the event including old fashioned clothes- washing and croquet. The event is free.
The Scott Middle School Jazz Band will again be performing at the Picnic Pavilion at the Eisenhower Birthplace at 11:00 a.m. Please bring your blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the show.
Scouts BSA Girl Troop 403 and Scouts BSA Boy Troop 611 will conduct a flag retirement on the grounds of the Eisenhower Birthplace at 3:00 p.m.
The Perrin Air Force Museum (436 S. McCullum Avenue in Denison) will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. that day. Come see the Wall of Honor Exhibit. The Red River Railroad Museum (124 W. Main Street) will also be open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
